The first gold for China came in the mixed team air rifle event, proving strong competition early in the games. Meanwhile, the rivalry between the United States and Australia continued in the swimming pool. In the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay, Team USA clinched gold, marking their third consecutive Olympic title in this category.

Australia turned the tables in the women’s 4x100m freestyle, taking gold and setting an Olympic record with a time of 3:28.92, with Team USA following closely in silver.

Famed swimmer Katie Ledecky added another medal to her collection, bringing her total to 11 Olympic medals after winning bronze in the 400m freestyle. Ariarne Titmus from Australia claimed gold in that race.

On the individual front, U.S. swimmer Gretchen Walsh made waves by breaking an Olympic record in the 100m butterfly semifinals. She clocked a stunning time of 55.38 seconds, just shy of her own world record.
