Indian cricket fans celebrated the 52nd birthday of one of their most cherished icons, Sourav Ganguly, on July 8. The former Indian cricket team captain, affectionately known as ‘Dada’, received a flood of well-wishes from fans and fellow cricketers alike.

Among those extending their greetings was cricketer Manoj Tiwary, who expressed his admiration and love for the iconic former Bengal captain, showcasing the camaraderie within the cricketing community.

Sourav Ganguly, often referred to as the ‘Prince of Calcutta’, left an indelible mark on Indian cricket with his exceptional leadership and playing style. He paved the way for future cricket stars like Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, and MS Dhoni, who flourished under his mentorship.

Ganguly’s career commenced with a spectacular debut century at Lord’s in 1996, setting the stage for his remarkable journey. His partnership with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in ODIs was a force to be reckoned with, forming one of the most formidable opening pairs in the history of the sport.

Having featured in 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, Sourav Ganguly amassed a total of 18,575 runs in international cricket before bidding adieu in 2008. His tenure as India’s captain marked a significant era in the team’s history, with Ganguly emerging as one of the most successful leaders in Indian cricket at the time.

Post-retirement, Ganguly transitioned into cricket administration, taking up pivotal roles in the Cricket Association of Bengal and eventually ascending to the presidency of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. His contributions to the sport extend beyond the field, shaping the cricketing landscape in India.
