Skiing In The Pyrenees Mountains

LEIDA, Spain – The ski season in the Pyrenees region is witnessing an impressive final stretch, offering more than 400 kilometers of skiable terrain due to recent snowfalls. As temperatures climbed over 20 degrees Celsius in areas like Vielha and La Pobla de Segur, the season’s most vibrant days may be numbered.

As of March 21, 2025, ski resorts such as Baqueira Beret, Boí Taüll, Espot Esquí, Port Ainé, Port del Comte, and Tavascan reported optimal conditions following significant snowfall in previous weeks. According to reports, alpine ski areas have 267 kilometers open, with Baqueira Beret leading the charge with 145 kilometers and snow depths reaching up to 180 centimeters.

Nordic ski areas contribute an additional 132 kilometers, with Tuixent-La Vansa and Aransa recognized for their excellent offerings. Despite the unseasonably warm weather affecting the valleys, resorts at higher elevations continue to maintain good snow quality, predominantly featuring powder snow across many slopes.

The contrast between spring-like temperatures and outstanding skiing conditions makes Lleida an attractive destination for skiing in March. Future forecasts indicate mild temperatures, with highs expected to hover between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius in lower areas of the Pyrenees. Although significant snowfall is not anticipated in the immediate future, nighttime temperature drops could help preserve snow quality at higher elevations.

Regarding avalanche risk, a moderate level (3 out of 5) is noted according to the ICGC Avalanche Risk Bulletin. Skiers and outdoor enthusiasts are advised to exercise caution while participating in off-piste activities or in uncontrolled areas, as warming trends could destabilize the snowpack.
