SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs announced Thursday that they are exercising the fourth-year team option for forward Victor Wembanyama and the third-year option for guard Stephon Castle. This move secures both players’ contracts through the 2026-27 season.

Wembanyama, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, signed a four-year rookie contract worth $55 million. The duo has made a significant impact, with both players earning Rookie of the Year honors in their respective debut seasons.

Castle, selected fourth overall in the 2024 draft, signed a four-year deal worth $41 million. He averaged 14.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.7 rebounds last season, leading rookie players in total points and made free throws.

Wembanyama, 21, also emerged as a star in the NBA, making the All-Star team last season while averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, and leading the league in blocks with 3.8 per game. He is the only player in history to receive over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his first two seasons.

Following a brief injury last season, Wembanyama has been cleared for training camp and expressed no lingering health concerns. “I feel like I need to play basketball now,” he stated. “I’ve already maxed out what I could do in one summer.”

The Spurs will open their season on October 22 against the Dallas Mavericks, and team officials are optimistic about the potential of their young stars.
