Sram Force Xplr Axs Bike Review

PARIS, France — SRAM’s new 13-speed gravel groupset, Force XPLR AXS, offers impressive performance at a significantly lower price.

Released on June 17, 2025, the Force XPLR AXS provides functionality similar to the Red AXS groupset but at a cost-effective price. Priced at around £1,800 less than Red, the Force XPLR AXS brings excellent ergonomics, smooth shifting, and versatility for gravel riders.

The groupset features a full-mount rear derailleur, great shifter ergonomics, and a 460% range cassette, making it appealing for both new and seasoned cyclists. The groupset also benefits from a simpler installation process due to its fully wireless design, which allows components to communicate easily.

According to Warren Rossiter, senior technical editor at OurMedia, the setup process for the Force XPLR is as straightforward as linking the rear derailleur to the AXS app, minimizing build times for both home and professional mechanics.

The main changes to Force XPLR compared to its predecessor include new shifter designs, improved braking functionality, and advancements in weight savings, resulting in better overall performance. For instance, the new lever design allows for easier access to controls while riding.

“The design changes and lighter materials contribute to a more enjoyable riding experience,” Rossiter noted. “These include backward compatibility options for those upgrading from older SRAM systems.”

During testing, the Force XPLR AXS demonstrated excellent shifting accuracy even under load, matching the performance of Red AXS. Users can experience smooth function across various terrain, including steep gravel rides.

The pigments used in the groupset design, while not as flashy as the high-end models, emphasize its premium functionality and performance over cosmetic appeal.

The overall feedback regarding the Force XPLR AXS has been positive, as it emerges as a solid choice for cyclists looking for value without sacrificing quality. This groupset is expected to make waves in the cycling community, encouraging upgrades well before the cycling season begins.
