Sri Lanka Faces Challenges Ahead of T20I Series in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Sri Lanka‘s cricket team is facing several challenges as they prepare for a T20I series against Zimbabwe and Pakistan. The series begins on November 18, 2025, with each team playing the other twice, culminating in a final on November 29.
Leg-spinner Viyaskanth has been added to the squad to cover for all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who is suffering from a hamstring injury. Although Hasaranga has not been ruled out, he missed the last ODI due to his injury, leaving a gap in the lineup.
Viyaskanth will join the team after playing in Qatar. This marks a significant moment for him, as he has only represented Sri Lanka once before, making his debut during the Hangzhou Asian Games in October 2023. Known for his impressive performances, Viyaskanth became the youngest player to participate in the Lanka Premier League at just 18 years and 364 days, representing the Jaffna Stallions.
Adding to Sri Lanka’s woes, their regular T20I captain Charith Asalanka has flown home due to illness. Dasun Shanaka will step in as the team captain for the series. Despite these setbacks, Sri Lanka aims to make a strong showing starting with their first match against Zimbabwe on November 20.
The team will need to adapt quickly to their new lineup and focus on performing well in the tournament, especially after suffering a 3-0 defeat in their recent ODI series.
