Stallions Face Showboats as UFL Week 5 Heats Up

ARLINGTON, Texas — April 25, 2025 — The United Football League’s Week 5 brings high stakes as teams clash with playoff hopes on the line. At the top of the list is the game between the Birmingham Stallions (3-1) and the Memphis Showboats (0-4), set for Friday night at Protective Stadium.
Despite being the reigning champions, the Stallions are struggling this season, having reduced their average scoring from a league-leading 26.5 points per game in 2024 to just 16.2. Head coach Skip Holtz acknowledged the need for improvement, saying, “We’ve shown flashes of who we can be, and I think we’ve shown flashes of who we are.”
Cooking for the Stallions is quarterback Case Cookus, who is stepping in this week as the starter against Memphis. Cookus previously played for the Showboats, completing 61.5% of his passes last season. “I feel really good,” Holtz said, expressing confidence in Cookus’ understanding of the offense.
For Memphis, interim coach Jim Turner has decided to start quarterback Dresser Winn, who has previously spent time on the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad. The Showboats aim to grab their first win of the season as they face what has been a tough Stallions defense boasting a strong home record.
The matchup will include other notable games over the weekend, including the Michigan Panthers (3-1) visiting the St. Louis Battlehawks (2-2) on Saturday and the DC Defenders (3-1) facing the Arlington Renegades (3-1) on Sunday.
As the league reaches its midpoint, each game will be pivotal for the teams’ playoff aspirations. Fans can catch the action on FOX and ESPN.
