Stan Verrett Sportscenter Anchor

BRISTOL, Conn. – Stan Verrett, a prominent anchor on ESPN‘s SportsCenter, is set to leave the broadcaster after 25 years. Verrett joined ESPN in 2000 and has been a familiar face on the network ever since, but he confirmed that his time is nearing an end.

Verrett’s contract will conclude this summer, and he will continue as an anchor until then. He is set to appear at various locations during SportsCenter’s promotional event titled “50 States in 50 Days,” beginning next month.

In a post on X, Verrett expressed his gratitude for his lengthy career at ESPN, stating, “My life is in Los Angeles now. Nothing but gratitude for 25 years of living a dream at ESPN. I’m not retiring. Really excited about the future and some incredible opportunities. Stay tuned.” This indicates that he plans to explore new opportunities rather than stepping back from the workforce entirely.

ESPN announced in March that it would be relocating the SportsCenter offices to its headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut. In light of Verrett’s departure, Dave Roberts, ESPN’s EVP and executive editor of sports news and entertainment, expressed appreciation for Verrett’s contributions. He stated, “We’re grateful for Stan’s many contributions and all he has brought to SportsCenter over the years. We thank him and wish him continued success.”

Verrett joined the SportsCenter team in 2009, co-hosting the 1 a.m. edition alongside Neil Everett, who retired in 2023. Before his time at ESPN, the 58-year-old worked as a weekend sports anchor and reporter for WDSU-TV, as well as similar roles at ABC affiliate WVEC-TV and WAVY-TV. Notably, Verrett is also the cousin of former NFL cornerback Jason Verrett.
