FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Stars announced Thursday that they have signed forward Matt Duchene to a four-year contract extension worth $18 million. The deal, which begins in the 2025-26 season and runs through the 2028-29 season, carries an average annual value of $4.5 million.

General Manager Jim Nill expressed excitement about the signing. “We are thrilled to have Matt back with our organization,” Nill said. “As our team’s leading scorer last season, he helped to solidify our forward group while also providing invaluable leadership off the ice and in the community.”

Duchene, 34, had an impressive regular season with the Stars, finishing with 82 points, including a career-high 52 assists. This performance made him the highest-scoring Star since the 2022-23 season.

During the 2024-25 campaign, Duchene reached key milestones, such as skating in his 1,100th career NHL game and achieving his 500th career assist. He also contributed six points in 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games, guiding the Stars to their third consecutive Western Conference Final.

The five-foot-11, 212-pound forward has amassed 891 career points over 1,138 regular-season games. His experience spans five franchises, including the Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators. Despite struggling at times in the playoffs, his consistent regular season performance solidified his value to the team.

Duchene, a native of Haliburton, Ontario, has represented Canada in international competitions, winning multiple gold medals, including at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Drafted third overall by the Avalanche in 2009, he has played for various teams before joining the Stars as a free agent in 2023.

As the Stars prepare for the upcoming seasons, Nill noted the team’s commitment to building a championship roster. With this contract extension, Duchene will continue to be a central figure in their pursuit of the Stanley Cup.
