Dallas Stars Colorado Avalanche Playoff Series

Dallas, TX – The Dallas Stars are struggling as they enter the Stanley Cup playoffs, having lost their last seven games. In their first-round matchup on April 19, 2025, they will face a familiar opponent, the Colorado Avalanche. The Stars will need to bounce back quickly, especially without their top scorer Jason Robertson, who is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.

Despite the rough end to the regular season, the Stars believe they can excel in the postseason. Coach Pete DeBoer pointed out that they have a strong team, but they need to find their rhythm. “We need our key players to perform at their best,” said DeBoer.

One key player Dallas is relying on is Jake Oettinger, their starting goaltender. Oettinger has had a rough patch recently, finishing the regular season with a troubling 4.50 goals against average in his last four games, leading some to question if he can deliver in high-pressure playoff situations. “This is on my shoulders. I need to bring my best game,” Oettinger said.

The Avalanche, who won the Stanley Cup two years ago, have a strong roster led by Nathan MacKinnon and newcomer Mackenzie Blackwood in goal. Blackwood has posted impressive numbers in recent games but lacks playoff experience, which might be an advantage for Oettinger.

Mikko Rantanen, a former Avalanche player, has joined the Stars for this playoff push. He has already made an impact, scoring five goals and 13 assists since joining the teams from a trade earlier in the season. Rantanen’s presence adds depth to the Stars as they look to compete. “It’s about winning now. I’m fully focused on this,” Rantanen remarked.

With Robertson injured, forward Roope Hintz will need to step up. He had notched 22 wins when scoring during the regular season, highlighting his importance in the lineup. Granlund and Dadonov are also set to fill key roles going into the playoffs.

The Stars have a challenging road ahead, facing a powerful Avalanche team. Fans will be watching closely to see if history can repeat itself favorably for Dallas, as they aim for a victory in Game 1 of Round One.
