Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin's Contract Future Remains Uncertain

Despite Pittsburgh Steelers‘ Head Coach Mike Tomlin guiding the team to the playoffs with a three-game win streak, his future with the organization remains uncertain. As the NFL’s longest-tenured active head coach without experiencing a losing season, Tomlin’s contract extension is under discussion. However, Tomlin has not made a final decision and plans to consult with his family before making a choice.

A recent report states that the Steelers are interested in extending Tomlin’s contract, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Although Tomlin still has one year remaining on his current deal, there is speculation that he might consider taking time off like Sean Payton did, potentially even a year-long break. Ultimately, Tomlin has the power to determine whether he continues with the Steelers or explores other opportunities.

Commentators such as ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jay Glazer of FOX Sports affirm that Tomlin’s decision to return to Pittsburgh for the upcoming season rests solely with him. Despite calls for Tomlin’s dismissal just a few weeks ago, given his impressive track record, it is up to Tomlin to determine his coaching future. The Steelers have no plans to fire him.

In other NFL news, the Cleveland Browns’ head coach, Kevin Stefanski, has affirmed that Deshaun Watson will reclaim the starting quarterback position next season. Although Joe Flacco led the Browns into the playoffs after Watson’s season-ending shoulder injury, Stefanski asserts that Watson’s rehabilitation is progressing well, and he expects him to be back on the field this spring. Stefanski has confirmed that Watson will be the team’s starting quarterback moving forward.

When asked about the possibility of having both Watson and Flacco on the roster next season, Stefanski left that decision to General Manager Andrew Berry. He expressed his appreciation for Flacco’s contribution to the team and the respect he has for the veteran quarterback.

Meanwhile, Joe Flacco reflected on his successful late-season run with the Browns and expressed his desire to continue playing. While Flacco did not rule out the possibility of returning as Watson’s backup, he emphasized his current focus on processing the disappointment of their recent playoff loss.

In Cincinnati, the Bengals have experienced slow starts in the past two seasons, partly due to starting quarterback Joe Burrow missing significant training camp time due to injury. Looking ahead to next season, Head Coach Zac Taylor acknowledged the need to address their slow starts. He plans to evaluate their current approach and make necessary changes to avoid finding themselves in an early hole again. Starting 0-2 is not the desired beginning, and Taylor aims to give his team the best chance to start strong.
