Steelers Face Pessimistic Projections Ahead of Rookie Minicamp

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for their upcoming rookie minicamp this summer, media predictions about the team’s prospects for the season paint a gloomy picture. Much of the skepticism stems from their ongoing quarterback situation, compounded by the recent signing of wide receiver DK Metcalf.
Mike Clay, an ESPN analyst, shared his statistical outlook for the Steelers, suggesting they may acquire quarterback Aaron Rodgers before the season begins. This projection includes Rodgers as the starting quarterback, with Mason Rudolph serving as the backup. However, the predictions for second-year wide receiver Roman Wilson are notably bleak.
Clay noted that Wilson, who faced injury setbacks during his rookie season, is expected to participate in only 14 out of 17 games next season, with minimal impact. According to Clay, Wilson might see just five targets, catching three passes for a total of 36 yards throughout the entire season. The addition of veteran Robert Woods and the rise of Calvin Austin III are expected to further diminish Wilson’s potential statistics.
Many fans find it difficult to believe that Wilson, if healthy, would not contribute more, especially given the Steelers’ struggling wide receiver depth. The quarterback dynamics may significantly influence Wilson’s projections, as playing under either Rudolph or Will Howard might lead to different outcomes.
With offseason activities approaching, the Steelers are looking to solidify their roster and improve their chances in the competitive NFL landscape.
