Steelers Face Uncertain Future After Disappointing 2024 Season

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers, once celebrated for their resilience, are grappling with an uncertain future after a disappointing 2024 NFL season. Defensively, the Steelers face aging stars and salary cap constraints. Cameron Heyward and T.J. Watt, cornerstones of the defense, are nearing the twilight of their careers. Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick‘s hefty contract also raises questions about his long-term role. “If the defense can’t carry the Steelers any longer, are they headed for bottom-dweller status in the NFL?” Brandt added.

General Manager Omar Khan has shown promise in the draft, but the team’s inability to stay healthy, particularly along the offensive line, hindered progress. First-round pick Troy Fautanu‘s season-ending injury was a significant blow. “Things could have looked different had the offensive line played at a high level all year,” a team insider noted.

With the 21st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Steelers face a critical offseason. The quarterback dilemma, coupled with financial constraints, makes roster improvements challenging. “The problems feel way less fixable than they did a year ago,” Brandt concluded.
