Derrick Harmon Nfl Draft Pittsburgh Steelers

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed their first-round pick Derrick Harmon to a four-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $17.974 million. This agreement completes the team’s 2025 rookie class, with all seven draft picks now under contract.

According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Harmon was the 21st overall selection in the NFL Draft after a standout senior season at Oregon, where he recorded 45 tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. The 6-foot-4, 313-pound defensive tackle also led all college defensive tackles with the most quarterback pressures last season.

“We like his physical stature, we like his style of play,” said Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin during the team’s draft review. Tomlin emphasized the team’s focus on physicality after a disappointing end to last season, where the Steelers lost in the playoffs.

In addition to Harmon, the Steelers have signed five other rookie players, including third-round running back Kaleb Johnson and fourth-round edge rusher Jack Sawyer. Tomlin noted that prioritizing tough, physical players was a key theme in their draft strategy.

The Steelers plan to begin organized team activities (OTAs) on May 27, with training camp set to start in late July. Harmon, who hopes to make an impact on the defensive line, stated, “You gotta have a little bit of grit to be in this organization. I feel like that’s me.”
