Stefon Diggs Houston Texans 2024 Injury

HOUSTON, Texas — When the Houston Texans acquired star wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills prior to the 2024 NFL season, expectations were sky-high. However, a torn ACL ended his season prematurely, casting doubt on his future with the team as he heads into free agency.

Diggs, 31, played in just eight games this season, recording 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns. Despite his limited time on the field, he made a noticeable impact, leaving the Texans with a tough decision to make this offseason. While Houston may seek to re-sign him, other teams, including the New England Patriots, are rumored to be interested in acquiring the veteran receiver.

“There are a few teams who need that kind of mentality at wide receiver, but the New England Patriots could be a really fun one for Diggs,” said an analyst. “Drake Maye needs a safety valve, Diggs could set a standard for New England’s younger receivers, and he could get a chance at payback against his former Bills team twice a year.”

The Texans’ quarterback, C.J. Stroud, could be a key factor in Diggs’ decision. Stroud’s emergence as one of the league’s top young quarterbacks might entice Diggs to stay in Houston. However, the uncertainty surrounding fellow wideout Tank Dell, who suffered a gruesome leg injury late in the season, could complicate matters. Dell’s recovery timeline remains unclear, potentially pushing the Texans to prioritize retaining Diggs as their No. 1 target.

Diggs’ free agency will undoubtedly attract significant attention, with multiple teams likely to make competitive offers. The Texans will need to weigh their options carefully, balancing Diggs’ age and injury history against his proven ability to elevate an offense.

As the offseason approaches, all eyes will be on Houston’s front office to see if they can secure Diggs’ services for another season or if he will take his talents elsewhere in pursuit of a fresh start.
