Stellenbosch FC CEO Reveals Club’s Rejection of Abha FC’s Offer for Iqraam Rayners
Stellenbosch FC CEO, Rob Benadie, recently unveiled the club’s decision to turn down an offer from Abha FC for striker Iqraam Rayners.
The South African coach, Pitso Mosimane, currently guiding Abha in the Saudi Premier Soccer League, expressed interest in Rayners to boost their offensive prowess and stave off relegation.
The urgency of the situation was evident as Abha reached out just hours before the closure of the Saudi transfer window on January 30, after the window for the South African Premier Soccer League had already shut on January 26.
Benadie outlined that Abha proposed a loan deal for Rayners instead of a permanent transfer, citing the challenge of finding a suitable replacement for their primary striker.
Rather than receiving the rejection negatively, Rayners understood the club’s standpoint, respecting their decision to retain him for the time being.
Benadie hinted at the possibility of considering inquiries and offers for the 28-year-old forward at the conclusion of the season, indicating the club’s openness to potential deals.
Speaking with FARPost, Benadie expressed confidence in Rayners’ goal-scoring abilities for the latter part of the season, mentioning the likelihood of renewed interest from Abha FC or other clubs.
The CEO emphasized that Rayners’ perspective would be pivotal in any future discussions, keeping the player’s best interests in mind with regard to potential opportunities for him and his family.
Rayners, having notched six goals in 20 appearances for Stellenbosch FC this season, remains a valuable asset for the team.
Stellenbosch FC is gearing up to face SuperSport United on Friday night at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in their first match of the year, where Rayners will seek to make his mark in front of goal once more.
