Steph Curry Suffers Injury but Returns as Warriors Eye Playoffs

PORTLAND, Ore. — Golden State Warriors star guard Steph Curry left Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers early in the first quarter after sustaining a right thumb injury. The incident occurred with approximately 2:45 left in the quarter when Curry collided with Blazers forward Justin Minaya while attempting to drive to the basket.
Initially ruled questionable to return by the Warriors, Curry was seen returning to the court with his right hand wrapped around eight minutes into the second quarter. Shortly after his return, he made a 3-pointer, signaling that his injury might not be as serious as initially feared. “Steph’s hand doesn’t appear to be bothering him too much,” posted Warriors on NBC Sports.
This thumb injury is a recurrence for the 37-year-old, who has dealt with similar issues earlier this season, including a notable injury sustained in January during a matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers.
As the Warriors strive for a No. 6 seed in the Western Conference playoffs, the health of their star point guard is critical. “We need Steph at full strength for these final must-win games,” said head coach Steve Kerr.
The Warriors, who defeated the Phoenix Suns 133-95 in their previous game, currently hold a 47-32 record and are aiming to maintain their playoff position, fighting to avoid the play-in tournament. Curry’s return to the game Friday indicated his determination to contribute, especially with only two games left in the regular season.
Curry’s injury update follows news regarding teammate Gary Payton II, who has been ruled out with knee swelling, and Quinten Post, who remains sidelined due to illness. Payton’s absence marks his second consecutive game missed.
The Warriors’ upcoming schedule includes a critical contest against the San Antonio Spurs, followed by a rematch with the Trail Blazers. As they prepare for these must-win games, the Warriors’ ability to perform with their core players intact will be pivotal for their postseason hopes.
