Steve Evans Departs Stevenage for Rotherham United’s Return
Stevenage Football Club announced the departure of Steve Evans, the former First Team manager, who is set to join Rotherham United with immediate effect.
Evans led Stevenage to promotion from League Two to a top-half position in League One during his two-year tenure at the club. His departure followed an official approach and the fulfillment of compensation terms.
The 61-year-old’s unexpected exit from Stevenage marks the end of a successful period that saw the club climb the English football league ladder.
Phil Wallace, the Chairman of Stevenage Football Club, expressed understanding of the situation, citing the presence of compensation clauses in such scenarios as common practice in football.
Paul Raynor, Evans’ assistant, will also be leaving the club, while Alex Revell is set to take charge for the remaining fixtures at Stevenage.
Rotherham United welcomed back Steve Evans as the new first team manager, with the appointment made official alongside the return of his assistant, Paul Raynor, to AESSEAL New York Stadium.
Evans and Raynor signed contracts that extend until 2027, underlining their commitment to the Millers who they previously guided to back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship.
The duo’s immediate focus will be on preparing the team for their upcoming fixture against Birmingham City at AESSEAL New York Stadium this weekend.
At Rotherham United, Chairman Tony Stewart highlighted the need for change at the club, leading to the return of Evans and Raynor in a bid to secure promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship.
The departure of Leam Richardson and Rob Kelly paved the way for Evans’ return to the helm, with the club looking to capitalize on their understanding of the club’s ‘DNA’ and successful track record.
A press conference to unveil Steve Evans as the new manager is scheduled to take place at AESSEAL New York Stadium in the coming days.
