Former BYU and NFL great Steve Young has been in the spotlight recently, sharing heartfelt and insightful comments about the people who have significantly impacted his life and career. In a recent appearance on the “Y’s Guys” livestream/podcast, Young opened up about several key figures who have made a lasting difference in his life.

Young expressed deep gratitude towards Ted Tollner, his former BYU quarterback coach, who he credits with changing his life. Tollner recognized Young’s potential as a quarterback despite being a lefty and advocated for him to get a chance to play the position. Young’s admiration for Tollner is evident, as he mentioned hugging him every time they meet and extending that affection to Tollner’s family members.

He also praised Kevin Young, the current BYU basketball coach, for his innovative approach and success in transforming the program. Steve Young believes that Kevin Young’s strategies and leadership are setting the stage for future championships and benefiting the entire BYU athletic community.

On a personal note, Young spoke fondly of his parents, LeGrand and Sherry Young. He described his mother as a peacemaker and his father, nicknamed ‘Grit,’ as a source of resilience and determination. He recently gifted his father a new truck, highlighting the close bond they share.

Young also shared his appreciation for his wife, Barbara, with whom he has been married for 25 years. He credited her with helping him grow and learn every day, expressing his joy and gratitude for their relationship.

In addition to these personal reflections, Steve Young has been commenting on BYU’s current football season. During the Big Noon Kickoff, he praised BYU’s starting quarterback, Jake Retzlaff, describing him as a ‘swashbuckler’ and expressing his impression with Retzlaff’s performance.
