Stony Brook Seeks Redemption Against Charleston in CAA Showdown
CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Stony Brook Seawolves (5-16, 1-7 CAA) will face the Charleston Cougars (16-5, 6-2 CAA) in a Coastal Athletic Association matchup on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at TD Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, with the game airing on CBS Sports Network.
The Seawolves, coming off an 89-74 victory over North Carolina A&T on January 25, aim to build momentum after snapping an eight-game losing streak. Meanwhile, the Cougars, who defeated Elon 76-62 in their last outing, have won three of their last four games and hold a perfect 7-0 all-time record against Stony Brook.
Charleston enters as a 16.5-point favorite, with the over/under set at 146.5 points. The Cougars boast a strong offensive presence, averaging 78.5 points per game, led by senior center Ante Brzovic, who averages 18.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Deywilk Tavarez adds 14.1 points per game, shooting 43% from beyond the arc.
Stony Brook, on the other hand, has struggled offensively, averaging just 66.1 points per game. Junior guard CJ Luster II leads the team with 14.7 points per game, while senior guard Joseph Octave contributes 13.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest.
According to SportsLine‘s predictive model, which simulates every Division 1 college basketball game 10,000 times, the model leans toward the over on the total points, projecting 149 combined points. It also indicates that one side of the spread hits in 70% of simulations.
Charleston’s home-court advantage has been significant this season, with the team averaging 84.3 points per game at TD Arena compared to 70.0 points on the road. Stony Brook, meanwhile, has struggled on the road, averaging just 62.9 points per game away from home.
As both teams prepare for Thursday’s clash, the Seawolves will look to defy the odds and secure a rare victory against the dominant Cougars.
