Omaha Nebraska Weather Storms

OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha area is preparing for potentially strong storms late Sunday and into early next week, as forecasters have identified the period as impact weather days. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk for severe activity across parts of southeast Nebraska starting Sunday night.

On Friday morning, meteorologist Caitlin Harvey detailed that while the weekend will mostly be dry, strong storms are anticipated starting Sunday evening. As temperatures drop, residents should keep an eye on the weather as storms could bring hail, damaging winds, and even isolated tornadoes.

Currently, temperatures in Omaha hover around 71 degrees, with wind gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour in some areas. A wind advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. Friday due to these strong gusts. Forecast models suggest that the windy conditions will not ease until late into the evening.

Harvey noted that while the likelihood of storms is higher closer to the Kansas border, areas in and around the Omaha metro may still experience significant weather events. Another round of storms is also anticipated Monday, with eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa again placed in a slight risk zone for severe weather.

Despite the severe weather threats, the immediate forecast for Saturday suggests a sunny day, though it will remain breezy. On Sunday, clouds will increase, leading to the potential for storms later in the day.
