Stuttgart, Germany — German tennis player Jan-Lennard Struff celebrated a rare victory at the ATP tournament in Stuttgart, advancing to the round of 16. The match took place on June 9, 2025, as Struff faced Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi, winning with a score of 6-4, 6-4.

At 35 years old, Struff, who hails from Warstein, is currently ranked 103rd in the world. This win marks only his fifth victory of the year, balanced against 13 losses, reigniting hopes of overcoming his recent struggles.

In the upcoming round, Struff will compete against eighth-seeded Czech player Jiri Lehecka. Should he win, he would likely face strong American player Ben Shelton, who holds the third seed.

Top-seeded Alexander Zverev, ranked third globally and from Hamburg, is also participating in the tournament. He returned to the court surprisingly quickly after his quarterfinal exit at the French Open. Despite expressing a lack of enthusiasm for tennis just days prior, Zverev is set to play either Italian veteran Fabio Fognini or France’s Corentin Moutet after having a bye in the first round.

Also joining the competition is young talent Justin Engel from Nürnberg, who received a wildcard entry. Additionally, Yannick Hanfmann from Karlsruhe has qualified for the main draw, both of whom had the day off on Monday.
