Suns’ Durant Named Player of the Week Amid Playoff Push

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns, after a rocky season, are surging just in time for the playoffs. Facing the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, the Suns entered the game with a three-game winning streak and victories in six of their last 10 contests.
Kevin Durant, the Suns’ star forward, was recognized for his exceptional performance in week 22 of the 2024-25 NBA season, receiving the title of Western Conference Player of the Week. During this period, Durant averaged 27.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists while shooting an impressive 58.8% from the field, 47.1% from three-point range, and 93.3% from the free-throw line.
In addition to Durant, Coby White of the Chicago Bulls was awarded the Player of the Week for the Eastern Conference. The recognition highlights pivotal performances that allow teams to claw their way into playoff contention.
The Suns are currently holding onto the final Play-In Tournament spot in the Western Conference. Their recent victories have put them in a position to compete for a playoff spot, a turnaround that seemed unlikely earlier in the season due to injuries and roster chemistry issues.
After a tough match against the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday, where the Suns emerged victorious with a score of 123-112, momentum is clearly on their side. Durant led the charge with 42 points, reinforcing his reputation as a clutch player, particularly highlighted by his 19-point third quarter.
Despite the late-season surge, speculation looms over the franchise concerning possible offseason changes. NBA insiders have reported that the Houston Rockets could be interested in acquiring Durant, igniting discussions about his future with the Suns.
As the regular season approaches its conclusion, every game becomes critical for the Suns. Head coach Monty Williams emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and not underestimating the competition. “Every game counts; we need to capitalize on this momentum and keep climbing,” he stated in a recent press conference.
With their playoff chances on the line and players like Durant stepping up, the Suns appear to be finding their rhythm when it matters most.
