Le Havre Marseille Match Incident

LE HAVRE, France – The Ligue 1 match between Le Havre and Olympique de Marseille was abruptly interrupted in the 64th minute on Saturday due to fan incidents in the stands at Stade Océane. As the game was in progress, Marseille was leading the match 1-0 after a goal from Amine Gouiri.

The interruption occurred when a group of Havre supporters moved into the aisles to confront Marseille fans celebrating Gouiri’s goal. This triggered skirmishes that led to chaos in the stands. To avoid further conflict, children and other supporters rushed onto the field for safety.

Marseille player Quentin Merlin was seen carrying a young girl to safety on the field amid the disruption. Meanwhile, teammates Josué Casimir, Abdoulaye Touré, and goalkeeper coach Nicolas Douchez urged fans to return to their designated areas. To restore order, the stadium announcer handed the microphone to the lead supporter of the Barbarians, the main ultra group of Marseille.

“If we want the match to resume, everyone needs to stay in their own section,” the supporter stated, addressing the crowd. Referees expect that the match will resume around 10:50 PM, pending the return of calm in the stands.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding fan violence and safety protocols during matches, affecting not only the teams but also the children and innocent bystanders in attendance.
