Suryansh Shedge Shares Insights on PBKS Debut and Ricky Ponting’s Guidance

AHMEDABAD, India – Suryansh Shedge, the newest all-rounder for Punjab Kings (PBKS), recently reflected on his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which took place on March 25 against Gujarat Titans (GT). The young cricketer revealed that he was unaware he would be part of the playing XI until the match day, but felt motivated by head coach Ricky Ponting‘s encouragement.
In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Shedge detailed how his performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai helped him secure his first IPL cap. “When we came to Ahmedabad, Ricky Sir was constantly talking to me during practice. I had no idea about the playing XI till the end of the day, as things keep changing according to the conditions. However, I was fully prepared for it and had it in my mind that he could make me play,” he stated.
Shedge highlighted how Ponting’s support bolstered his confidence as the match approached. “When we were leaving for the match, Ricky Sir sent me 2-3 messages, and this increased my confidence a lot. He talks about attitude and winning; being with him makes you want to be better.”
Discussing his performance, Shedge admitted he did not get to bat as the top-order batters excelled. “There was nothing much on my mind, and I knew I have to play according to the situation. I was enjoying watching the way Shreyas and Shashank were batting, trying to learn from them,” he explained.
Despite not getting an opportunity to showcase his talent, Shedge’s debut experience has set a solid foundation for his career in the IPL, under the guidance of one of cricket’s legendary figures.
