Swansea City Signs Jon McLaughlin as Goalkeeper
Swansea City has officially announced the signing of experienced goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin on a short-term contract, which will run until January, pending international clearance.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper joins the club following his recent tenure with Glasgow Rangers, providing necessary competition and support for the Swans’ goalkeeping position while Andy Fisher is recovering from surgery due to a groin injury.
Jon McLaughlin made a memorable appearance for Bradford City in the 2013 League Cup final, where he replaced the sent-off Matt Duke, as Swansea City secured its first major trophy at Wembley.
McLaughlin, now wearing the number 33 shirt at Swansea, has also played in the League Two play-off final with Bradford, contributing to the team’s promotion efforts that season.
The goalkeeper started his professional career with Harrogate Railway Athletic before moving on to Harrogate Town, ultimately joining Bradford City in 2008 and spending six notable years at Valley Parade.
Following his successful stint at Bradford, McLaughlin transferred to Burton, contributing to another promotion. He then returned to Scotland, signing with Hearts in 2017, where he made his international debut against Mexico at the end of that season.
His subsequent career included time at Sunderland and Rangers, where he spent four years, achieving a league title, a Scottish Cup victory, and reaching the Europa League final before his departure at the end of last season.
