Swiatek Dominates Potapova to Reach French Open Quarter-Finals
World number one Iga Swiatek breezed into the quarter-finals of the French Open with an emphatic 6-0 6-0 victory over Russia’s Anastasia Potapova in a swift 40-minute showdown.
Potapova, making her debut in the second week of a Grand Slam, found herself overwhelmed as Swiatek dictated play with relentless precision, leaving her opponent little room to maneuver amidst a barrage of well-placed shots.
The Russian sporadically challenged Swiatek’s serves, managing to claim a few winners, yet the Pole’s immaculate shot-making left Potapova struggling to respond, allowing the top seed to claim the first set in a mere 19 minutes.
Despite the supportive cheers from the spectators at Court Philippe-Chatrier, Swiatek appeared unfazed, effectively capitalizing on Potapova’s errors to maintain her early lead with ease.
While Swiatek’s dominance was undisputed, she did encounter some challenges with the swirling wind during her serves, opting to continue with the roof open following days of rain disruptions.
In the quarter-finals, Swiatek is poised to face either the fifth seed, Marketa Vondrousova, or Serbian qualifier Olga Danilovic, setting the stage for what promises to be another compelling match at Roland Garros.
