The Sydney Swans VFL team had an impressive outing against the Southport Sharks, clinching a 25-point victory at Frankhauser Reserve on Saturday. The final score was 14.9.93 in favor of the Swans, while the Sharks managed 10.8.68.

Peter Ladhams played a key role in the win, scoring three goals in the first half and dominating the ruck with 24 hit-outs and 18 disposals. Nic Shipley and Will Green also made their mark on the scoreboard by getting goals in the first quarter.

Caiden Cleary topped the Swans’ disposal count with 30 touches, while Sheldrick, who returned from an ankle injury, contributed with 23 disposals. Caleb Mitchell added 19, and both Vickery and Shipley had 17 each.

The Swans showed great determination in the second quarter, with Ladhams’ scoring streak accompanied by a major from Joel Hamling, reducing the deficit to just two points at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Swans came out strong and scored six goals. Shipley netted his second of the game, while Hanily, Magor, and McAndrew all chipped in with a goal each, as did QBE Sydney Swans Academy graduate Hamish Morrison, who scored two.

The third quarter concluded with the Swans leading by 32 points. Despite Southport’s efforts to narrow the score in the final quarter, the Swans maintained their composure, sealing their victory with late goals from Hanily and Lloyd.

VFL head coach Damian Truslove praised his team’s four-quarter performance, highlighting that they avoided the lapses they had in previous games. He specifically noted the strong contributions from Ladhams, Cleary, Mitchell, and Shipley.

With a bye week ahead, Truslove is eager to keep the momentum going. He expressed plans to have a productive training session before focusing on the next challenge against Collingwood after the break.

Fans can catch the VFL side back in action at Tramway Oval on Friday, August 9, just before the AFL match, kicking off at 2:05 pm.
