Syracuse Struggles in First ACC West Coast Game Against Stanford
PALO ALTO, Calif. — Syracuse basketball faced a tough challenge in its first ACC West Coast trip, falling behind early and struggling to recover in a 78-71 loss to Stanford on Wednesday night at Maples Pavilion. The game, which tipped off at 11 p.m. EST, marked the second-ever meeting between the two programs and the first on Stanford’s home court.
Stanford’s Maxime Raynaud led the charge with a game-high 28 points, including two early three-pointers that set the tone for the Cardinal. Syracuse, now 9-12 overall and 3-7 in the ACC, struggled offensively, scoring just two points in the first 11 minutes of the game. The Orange shot 35% from the field and turned the ball over 14 times.
“We dug ourselves a hole early, and it was tough to climb out,” said Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry. “Stanford is a talented team, and Raynaud was a problem for us all night.”
Eddie Lampkin, Syracuse’s standout center, recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds. However, his efforts were overshadowed by Raynaud’s dominance in the paint. Lampkin, who leads the ACC in offensive rebounds, managed just three offensive boards against Stanford’s physical defense.
Stanford (15-6, 7-3 ACC) extended its home winning streak to 12 games, maintaining its perfect record in conference play at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal also received strong contributions from Jaylen Blakes and Oziyah Sellers, who combined for 32 points.
Syracuse’s offense showed signs of life in the second half, with Jaquan Carlos and Kyle Cuffe Jr. sparking a 7-0 run to cut Stanford’s lead to 12. However, the Cardinal responded with a 10-2 run, effectively sealing the game. Carlos finished with 10 points, while Cuffe added eight off the bench.
The Orange will continue their West Coast trip with a game against California on Saturday. Stanford, meanwhile, looks to extend its winning streak when it hosts Notre Dame next week.
