Taco Bell Revives Double Decker Taco After Fan Demand
Taco Bell, a well-known player in the realm of fast-casual Mexican cuisine, has announced the reintroduction of its popular Double Decker Taco. This decision, effective from October 10 through the end of the month, comes after a particularly emphatic public appeal. A fan’s direct challenge to the chain through social media appears to have been a tipping point.
Originally launched in 1995, the Double Decker Taco became a permanent fixture in 2006 before its discontinuation in 2019. On various occasions, Taco Bell has briefly brought back this item, each time igniting a fervent response from its loyal customer base following its subsequent withdrawal.
The Double Decker Taco combines the crunchy with the soft; it features a hard shell taco filled with beef, lettuce, and shredded cheese, wrapped in a soft tortilla smothered with beans. A ‘Supreme’ variant also includes tomatoes and sour cream. These limited-time offerings will be sold for $2 and $2.69 respectively, a reduction from their previous prices of $2.99 and $3.69.
The fan-led campaign reminiscent of Taco Bell’s past was highlighted by a passionate post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. A user directed a pointed message at the restaurant, urging them to “bring back the Double Decker Taco” in colorful terms, voicing the sentiment shared by many dedicated patrons.
In addition to the celebrated taco’s return, Taco Bell is also reintroducing the giant Cheez-It, which debuted in a limited run earlier in June. The extra-large cracker, 16 times the size of a regular Cheez-It, will be featured in new menu items such as the Crunchwrap Supreme, Tostada, and available a la carte.
This seemingly whimsical but strategic menu expansion reflects Taco Bell’s approach to balancing nostalgia with innovation. Customers can purchase the singular Big Cheez-It for $1 or incorporate it into other culinary concoctions available during this promotional period.
