LOS ANGELES, CA — Tanner Scott, relief pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, stated in a recent interview that the New York Yankees had no serious interest in signing him during the offseason. Despite speculation and rumors suggesting otherwise, Scott revealed he never communicated directly with the Yankees.

“I heard at the beginning they were interested,” Scott said. “And then after the Devin Williams trade, I figured I probably wasn’t going to hear from them.”

Devin Williams, a former Milwaukee Brewers player, was traded to the Yankees in December, further diminishing the likelihood of Scott joining the team. Williams had also expected to be traded to the Dodgers rather than the Yankees.

“I kind of thought I’d be going to L.A. That’s what I was being told,” Williams commented about his unexpected trade to New York.

Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake confirmed that while the team had shown interest in Scott, no concrete offers were made. “I don’t know to what extent we were going to go to get him,” Blake said. “But obviously, anyone with that level of talent in the free agent market, you’re going to be interested.”

Scott signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the Dodgers in January after a standout 2024 season, where he recorded a 1.75 ERA and 22 saves. However, his performance this season has been inconsistent, posting a 4.56 ERA and failing to secure three saves in the five games leading up to the June 1 series against the Yankees.

Williams has faced challenges since joining the Yankees, including being removed as the closer after a rough start to the season. His performance had improved recently, as he managed better outings following a demotion. He currently holds a 6.53 ERA.

As the Dodgers and Yankees clash on June 1, both teams have shown mixed results so far this season. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
