Tasmania JackJumpers Seek Venue Expansion Amid Sellout Streak
Larry Kestelman, owner of the National Basketball League (NBL), has confirmed ongoing discussions with the Tasmanian government to expand the capacity of MyState Bank Arena. This comes as the Tasmania JackJumpers continue their remarkable streak of 50 consecutive sellouts at the venue, along with eight sellouts at the Silverdome.
Kestelman praised the government for its initial investment in the team, which has proven to be a resounding success. “The government deserves a pat on the back for having the vision to invest, because it’s proved to be an amazing investment,” Kestelman told Newscorp. He expressed hope that the government would continue to support basketball, especially with the upcoming arrival of the AFL in Tasmania.
The JackJumpers, who are the defending NBL champions, have become a cultural phenomenon in Tasmania, drawing consistent sellout crowds since their inception. Kestelman also revealed that discussions are underway regarding the potential sale of the team, with an announcement expected by the end of the current season.
Tasmania will host the South East Melbourne Phoenix at MyState Bank Arena on Sunday at 4:30 PM AEDT. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN, 10 Bold, and 10 Play.
