2024 TCS New York City Marathon: Everything You Need to Know
The 2024 TCS New York City Marathon, one of the world’s most iconic and largest marathons, is set to take place on Sunday, November 3, 2024. This year’s event will see over 50,000 runners from around the globe competing in the 26.2-mile race through the five boroughs of New York City.
The marathon starts at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, with runners crossing the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn, then proceeding through Queens, over the Queensboro Bridge into Manhattan, and finally looping through the Bronx before returning to Manhattan and finishing in Central Park. The course is closed to vehicular traffic during the race.
The start times are staggered, with wheelchair athletes beginning at 8:00 AM, hand-cyclists and select athletes with disabilities starting at 8:22 AM, professional women at 8:40 AM, and professional men at 9:05 AM. The general runners will be divided into five waves, starting from 9:10 AM, with each subsequent wave beginning 35 minutes after the previous one. The last wave starts at 11:30 AM.
Spectators can watch the race at various designated viewing locations, including the United Airlines Zone at Columbus Circle and the standing spectator area inside Central Park. Grandstand seating tickets will be available for purchase, and spectators must enter through designated areas with security screening.
The event will be broadcast on Channel 7 WABC-TV and ESPN2, with a live two-hour show from the finish line airing nationally on ABC Network. This broadcast will cover celebrities and thousands of everyday runners crossing the finish line.
In addition to the main marathon, the weekend includes other events such as the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K and USATF 5K Championships on Saturday morning, and the TCS New York City Marathon Opening Ceremony on Friday, November 1, which will feature the 2024 NYRR Hall of Fame inductees and conclude with fireworks.
Several brands and organizations are hosting pop-up events, shake-out runs, and satellite events leading up to the marathon. Brands like On, Brooks, Tracksmith, and New Balance are among those organizing various activities for participants. New Balance is planning a significant pop-up event in collaboration with local communities.
The Alzheimer's Association is also participating as an official charity partner, with a full team registration and a fundraising goal of $4,400 per participant. The association has already raised over $470,000 towards their goal of $800,000.
