TCU Earns Top Seed for Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The TCU Horned Frogs have made history by securing the No. 1 seed in the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship, marking their first top seed since joining the conference. The tournament kicks off on Wednesday at T-Mobile Arena, featuring four days of competitive play.
TCU will begin their quest for the championship on Friday, along with Baylor, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia, who all received double byes into the quarterfinals. Kansas State, Utah, Iowa State, and Arizona earned single byes into the second round, with their matches scheduled for Thursday.
The tournament runs from Wednesday to Sunday, featuring a quadrupleheader each day. The winner secures the Big 12’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Last year, Texas claimed the title.
First-round games are slated for the following times: On March 5, No. 12 BYU faces No. 13 UCF at 11 a.m. CT, followed by No. 9 Colorado vs. No. 16 Houston at 1:30 p.m. CT, No. 10 Cincinnati vs. No. 15 Arizona State at 5:30 p.m. CT, and closing with No. 11 Kansas taking on No. 14 Texas Tech at 8 p.m. CT.
The second round will see No. 5 Kansas State battling the Game 1 winner at 11 a.m. CT on March 6, No. 8 Arizona facing the Game 2 winner at 1:30 p.m. CT, No. 7 Iowa State contending with the Game 3 winner at 5:30 p.m. CT, and No. 6 Utah going up against the Game 4 winner at 8 p.m. CT.
Quarterfinals are scheduled for March 7, with No. 4 West Virginia meeting the Game 5 winner at 11 a.m. CT, followed by No. 1 TCU versus the Game 6 winner at 1:30 p.m. CT, No. 2 Baylor facing the Game 7 winner at 5:30 p.m. CT, and No. 3 Oklahoma State competing against the Game 8 winner at 8 p.m. CT.
Semifinals will take place on March 8, with winners from the quarterfinal games advancing. The final match is set for March 9 at 4 p.m. CT, with the possibility of additional games on March 10 if necessary.
