Teams Gear Up For Ilt20 Season 2 With Confidence

The highly anticipated International League T20 Season 2 is set to kick off tomorrow with six teams vying for the coveted title. Defending champions Gulf Giants, led by Australian batter Chris Lynn, expressed their confidence in repeating their success from last season. The tournament, organized by the Emirates Cricket Board, features teams like Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Desert Vipers, Dubai Capitals, MI Emirates, and Sharjah Warriors.

During the Captains Day event held at Dubai International Stadium, Lynn stated that T20 cricket is all about adapting to the conditions and reinventing strategies. He hoped for batting-friendly pitches similar to last season to showcase their strong batting lineup once again.

Sharjah Warriors’ captain, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, expressed excitement and praised the team’s balanced lineup this year. He emphasized the importance of a winning start and aiming for the final. Meanwhile, Sunil Narine, leading the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, highlighted the team’s determination to improve on their performance from the previous season and ultimately win the trophy.

Colin Munro, skipper of the Desert Vipers, acknowledged their outstanding team comprising star players like Shaheen Shah Afridi. Munro mentioned their goal of adapting to the conditions and delivering a great show. Sam Billings represented Dubai Capitals at the press conference and conveyed the team’s confidence in their abilities.

Another prominent team, Mumbai Indians Emirates, led by Nicholas Pooran, is eager to make their mark in the tournament. Pooran expressed determination to lead his team to success and noted the tough competition from other star-studded teams in the league.

Shoaib Akhtar, the Brand Ambassador for the DP World ILT20 Season 2, set the tone for the upcoming matches by appreciating the talent and competitiveness of the participating players. He highlighted the tournament’s contribution to showcasing young talent and emphasized the significance of the impressive trophy.

The tournament boasts a lineup of over 100 international cricketers, including David Warner, Shaheen Afridi, Dwayne Bravo, Alex Hales, Shadab Khan, and Chris Woakes, among others. UAE players who have displayed remarkable performances in recent international matches are also part of the teams.

The matches will be played at Dubai International Stadium, Sharjah Cricket Stadium, and Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium, with a total of 34 matches scheduled. The tournament will witness top umpires, such as Simon Taufel and Aleem Dar, officiating the games. Esteemed former cricketers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Virender Sehwag, and Harbhajan Singh will be part of the commentary panel.
