Ted Lasso Season 4 in the Works as Creators Tease ‘Self-Reboot’
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Ted Lasso fans may have reason to celebrate as co-creator Bill Lawrence hints at a potential fourth season, describing it as a ‘self-reboot.’ The beloved Apple TV+ series, which originally planned to conclude after three seasons, could continue with a fresh storyline, according to Lawrence.
During a January 2025 interview with The Los Angeles Times, Lawrence revealed that Jason Sudeikis, the show’s star and co-creator, always envisioned Ted Lasso as a three-season arc. However, Lawrence hinted that Sudeikis has ‘another story’ in mind, one that could explore new angles while maintaining the show’s core charm. ‘It’s almost a self-reboot,’ Lawrence said. ‘I think that he always had in his head another story he wanted to tell.’
Speculation about Season 4 has been fueled by reports of the main cast, including Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca), Brett Goldstein (Roy), and Jeremy Swift (Higgins), signing on for more episodes. Warner Bros. TV executive Channing Dungey expressed optimism about the show’s future, stating, ‘These conversations are exciting, but it’s still early days.’
Season 3 of Ted Lasso wrapped up with several major storylines, including Ted’s return to Kansas to be with his son, Roy Kent stepping up as AFC Richmond‘s head coach, and Nate Shelley reconciling with the team. Lawrence hinted that Season 4 would take a different direction, potentially focusing on new dynamics within the team and exploring Ted’s life in the U.S.
Fans have taken to platforms like Reddit to share their theories about what Season 4 might hold. Some speculate about a spin-off centered on AFC Richmond, while others imagine Ted navigating life in Kansas. One fan suggested, ‘If Ted’s not the main character, why not call it a spinoff?’
Lawrence’s approach to the potential reboot reflects lessons learned from his previous work on Scrubs, where he faced criticism for a forced continuation in Season 9. This time, he aims to preserve Ted Lasso’s creative integrity while introducing fresh elements. ‘Scrubs branding was forced on Bill for Season 9. He wanted a new show separate from Scrubs,’ a Reddit user noted.
As discussions continue, fans remain divided between those who want the show to end on a high note and those eager for more stories. Whether Season 4 materializes or not, Ted Lasso’s legacy as a heartwarming and humorous series seems secure.
