Veteran Telugu actor Rajendra Prasad is mourning the passing of his daughter, Gayathri, who died after suffering a heart attack early on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Gayathri, aged 38, had been experiencing chest pain and gastric discomfort on Friday night before being rushed to AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad, where she succumbed to a massive heart attack at 12:40 a.m., as reported by Moneycontrol.

Prasad, who was on a film set during the incident, hurried to the hospital but unfortunately did not arrive in time to see his daughter alive. The Telugu film industry has extended an outpouring of tributes and condolences to the bereaved actor, with many taking to social media to express their sympathies.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan issued a statement expressing his condolences, stating, “My deepest sympathies to Shri Rajendra Prasad. The sudden death of Shri Rajendra Prasad’s daughter, Srimati Gayathri, has been shocking. I pray that her soul rests in peace.”

Film actor Jr NTR also conveyed his condolences on X (formerly known as Twitter) in Telugu, writing about his close bond with Prasad and his sorrow over Gayathri’s passing, “It’s sad to hear that Rajendra Prasad, whom I share a close bond with, has lost his daughter Gayathri. I pray her soul rests in peace.”

Gayathri is survived by her daughter, Sai Tejaswini, who is known in the film industry as a child actor. The last rites for Gayathri are scheduled to take place later today in Hyderabad.

Gayathri and Rajendra Prasad had previously endured a strained relationship due to her marriage against his wishes. However, they reportedly reconciled in 2018 during an event for Prasad’s film Bewars. Prasad has previously shared that he sees aspects of his late mother in Gayathri, indicating the depth of their bond despite past tensions.

Fellow actor Nani, previously known as Sai Dharam Tej, also expressed his condolences online, stating, “It is very painful to hear that someone like him, who saw his mother in his daughter, has to go through this. My deepest condolences to him.” Movie enthusiasts and members of the public have been visiting Prasad’s residence in Hyderabad to offer their condolences personally.
