Tennessee Titans Select Cam Ward First Overall in NFL Draft

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Tennessee Titans have selected Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The decision, announced Thursday evening, marks the Titans’ first top pick since 1978.
Ward, 22, had a stellar season at Miami, throwing for 39 touchdowns with only seven interceptions and completing 67.2% of his passes. His impressive performance earned him a spot as a Heisman Trophy finalist.
Before transferring to Miami, Ward began his collegiate career at Incarnate Word, a small school in Texas, where he was a zero-star recruit. He played two seasons at Incarnate Word prior to moving to Washington State, where he spent another two years before declaring for the NFL Draft. However, he ultimately returned for another season with the Hurricanes.
The Titans finished the previous season with a record of 3-14, their first under head coach Brian Callahan. Entering the draft, their quarterback options included last year’s starter Will Levis, who struggled with only two wins out of twelve starts. The Titans faced significant interest for the first pick, with reports mentioning the New York Giants as potential trade suitors.
Tennessee general manager Mike Borgonzi confirmed that the front office came to a consensus on selecting Ward for his potential to become a franchise quarterback. The Titans have not made the playoffs since 2021, signaling the urgency to rebuild.
Ward’s selection sets the stage for potential changes within the Titans’ quarterback lineup, likely indicating the end of Levis’s tenure as a starter, as the team commits to Ward as their new leader. The excitement around his potential and background is expected to revive the Titans’ performance heading into next season.
