Texans Await Joe Mixon’s Return After Injury Setback
HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Texans are dealing with uncertainty as star running back Joe Mixon continues to recover from a non-football-related injury. Detailed information about the injury remains undisclosed, but it is confirmed to involve Mixon’s ankle.
Mixon was placed on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list at the start of the 2025 NFL season, forcing him to miss at least the first four games. Texans general manager Nick Caserio expressed doubt about when, or if, Mixon would return to the field this year. “We’ll see. We’ll take it one day at a time,” he said during a recent press conference.
In Mixon’s absence, the Texans’ running back duties have fallen to Nick Chubb, Dameon Pierce, and rookie Woody Marks. Marks made headlines in Week 4 with a standout performance, rushing for 69 yards and scoring a touchdown. However, in Week 5, Chubb returned to lead the backfield with 10 carries for 34 yards.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans shared his sentiments regarding Mixon’s impact on the team, stating, “We miss Joe, miss his energy and enthusiasm and everything he brought to our team.” As the Texans hold a 2-3 record this season, fans are left questioning how the running back situation will evolve.
Mixon had an impressive 2024 season, rushing for 1,016 yards and scoring 12 total touchdowns. His role was significant in the Texans’ offense, and his ongoing absence raises concerns about the team’s playoff aspirations. With the team currently experiencing a resurgence after back-to-back wins, the need for a healthy Mixon could be critical.
As the Texans look ahead to their upcoming games against the Seattle Seahawks, the pressure to keep the offense productive will be on Chubb and Marks until official news on Mixon’s status arises.
