Dalton Schultz Houston Texans 2024 Playoff Game

HOUSTON, Texas — Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz, a key target for quarterback C.J. Stroud this season, has been cleared to play in Saturday’s AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Schultz, who was limited in practice earlier this week due to a shoulder injury, participated fully in Thursday’s drills, signaling his readiness for the crucial playoff game.

Schultz has been a consistent presence for the Texans throughout the 2024 season, appearing in every game and playing a pivotal role in their wild-card victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. His reliability as a pass-catcher has made him a favorite of Stroud, particularly in high-pressure situations.

Earlier in the week, Schultz’s availability was in question after he was listed on the injury report. He was limited in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, raising concerns about his status for Saturday’s game. However, his full participation on Thursday alleviated those worries. “Dalton’s a warrior,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said. “He’s been through a lot this season, and we’re confident he’ll be ready to go.”

If Schultz were unable to play or needed to leave the game, backup tight end Irv Smith Jr. would step in. Smith has been a reliable option for the Texans this season, providing depth at the position.

The Texans face a formidable opponent in the Kansas City Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Schultz’s presence on the field will be crucial for Houston’s offense as they look to advance to the AFC Championship Game. “He’s a big part of what we do,” Stroud said of Schultz. “Having him out there gives us a lot of confidence.”

Schultz’s injury scare highlights the physical toll of the NFL season, particularly during the playoffs. Despite the challenges, the Texans remain optimistic about their chances against the Chiefs. “We’ve got a great group of guys who are ready to fight,” Ryans added. “We’re focused on the task at hand.”

Saturday’s game, set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. CST at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, will be a test of resilience for both teams. With Schultz cleared to play, the Texans will look to capitalize on his chemistry with Stroud as they aim to keep their playoff run alive.
