Texans’ Nico Collins Placed on Injured Reserve After Hamstring Injury
The Houston Texans‘ offensive lineup will experience a significant setback following the announcement that wide receiver Nico Collins has been placed on injured reserve. The player, who currently leads the National Football League (NFL) with 567 receiving yards over the first five weeks of the season, suffered a hamstring injury during last Sunday’s narrow victory against the Buffalo Bills.
Collins sustained the injury while making a standout 67-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter of the game. Despite recording two receptions for 78 yards, he was ruled out shortly after due to the severity of his injury, causing him to miss the remainder of the Texans’ 23-20 victory. Texans’ head coach DeMeco Ryans had initially described the injury as a “week-to-week” matter, but the decision to place Collins on injured reserve indicates that he will be sidelined for at least four games.
With Collins out, the Texans will need to rely on their other receiving options, including Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell, John Metchie, Xavier Hutchinson, and Robert Woods, who have all caught passes for the team thus far this season. Collins’ absence comes as a considerable loss to the Texans’ offense, which has been benefiting from his average of 17.7 yards per catch and three touchdowns.
The Texans’ upcoming schedule includes matches against the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers, followed by a home game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week Eight. In Week Nine, the team is set to face the New York Jets, marking the fourth game Collins is expected to miss. It remains uncertain if his recovery period will extend beyond these fixtures.
Nico Collins’ performance had been crucial to the Texans’ standing as leaders in the AFC South, and his absence now poses a challenge that the team will need to overcome in the upcoming weeks.
