Cam Robinson Signing With Texans

HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have signed free-agent offensive tackle Cam Robinson to a one-year contract with a maximum value of $14.5 million, as confirmed by a league source.

The deal, which has a base value of $12 million, comes shortly after the Texans traded Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders. With Robinson’s addition, the Texans aim to solidify their offensive line, providing flexibility at both tackle positions for the upcoming season.

Robinson, 29, previously played for the Minnesota Vikings after being traded from the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Last season, he started seven games for the Jaguars and made 10 starts with the Vikings, stabilizing an offensive line that was struggling due to injuries, especially after left tackle Christian Darrisaw‘s injury in Week 8.

Despite a solid performance, Robinson’s contributions were not enough to completely fill Darrisaw’s shoes, as he ranked No. 25 in pass rush win rate and No. 45 in run block win rate among tackles following the trade. The Vikings secured nine consecutive wins during Robinson’s time on the field, showcasing the potential impact of his play.

Injuries have plagued Robinson throughout his career, which has prevented him from completing a full season multiple times. He managed to make it through the 2020 and 2024 seasons unscathed, but faced challenges in all other years due to injuries and a four-game suspension in 2023 for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

“Adding Cam was essential for our team as we transition away from Laremy. His experience and versatility at tackle positions will be invaluable as we continue to build our offensive line,” said Texans head coach.

Robinson’s ability to adapt will allow the Texans to keep Tytus Howard inside at offensive guard or shift him to right tackle, providing flexibility as they look forward to the upcoming season.

The signing reflects the Texans’ strategy to enhance their offensive line, particularly after trading Tunsil, who had been a mainstay for the team. With several adjustments in their lineup, Houston looks to improve its overall performance as it prepares for the upcoming NFL season.

As free agency unfolds, teams across the league will make significant changes to their rosters, and the Texans are taking proactive steps to optimize their line as they head into a competitive offseason.
