HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Texans are adding depth to their receiver corps by signing veteran Justin Watson to a one-year contract worth $5.25 million. The announcement came on March 10, 2025, as free agency nears its official start on March 12.

Watson, who previously played for the Kansas City Chiefs, brings valuable experience as both a wide receiver and special teams contributor. The Texans, who already have several players signed to their roster, aim to fortify their offensive strategy for the upcoming season.

“Justin is a versatile player who can contribute not only at the wide receiver position but also on special teams,” said Texans General Manager Nick Caserio. “His work ethic and experience will be beneficial to our team as we build towards a competitive season.”

In Houston, Watson will complement star wide receiver Brandin Cooks and new addition DeAndre Hopkins, who was acquired via trade. Houston’s coaching staff believes Watson’s ability to stretch the field will enhance offensive options, making it difficult for opposing defenses.

Last season in Kansas City, Watson participated in a majority of offensive plays, showcasing significant productivity when given the opportunity. With a solid track record, he aims to continue his development in Houston.

The Texans are in the midst of a busy free agency period as they look to improve their roster following an underwhelming 2024 season. The addition of Watson is seen as a strategic low-cost move that fits into their financial plans.

More moves are expected as the free agency window opens, and the Texans’ management is keen to capitalize on the increased salary cap, which has risen from $255.4 million to $279.2 million this year, providing greater flexibility for all teams.

As the NFL prepares for a busy offseason, the Texans’ front office will continue to monitor the market for additional signings and trades that could further strengthen the team’s chances in the upcoming season.
