Texas A&M Falls Hard to Tennessee, Suffers 10-0 Shutout

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Texas A&M baseball faced off against the top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers on April 4, 2025, but it ended in disappointment as the Aggies fell 10-0 in a run-rule victory.
The matchup was a rematch of last year’s College World Series, where Tennessee edged out the Aggies in three games to claim the title. This time, A&M struggled under the pressure, starting the game with a troubling 1-8 record in Southeastern Conference play.
The Volunteers, bolstered by junior first baseman Andrew Fischer—a transfer from Ole Miss—showcased their power early in the game. Fischer hit a substantial home run over the right field fence, which ignited the Volunteer offense. The Aggies’ pitching staff, particularly redshirt junior left-hander Ryan Prager, did not fare well, allowing nine hits and only achieving four strikeouts.
Tennessee’s junior left-handed pitcher Liam Doyle dominated the mound, blanking the Aggies and striking them out eight times, contributing significantly to the Aggies’ lack of hits throughout the match. The Aggie defense faltered as well, making a critical error in the third inning that allowed Fischer to step to the plate again, who promptly launched another home run, pushing the Volunteers’ lead to 4-0.
Despite a glimmer of hope in the fourth inning where A&M had runners on first and second, they could not capitalize on the opportunity. Sophomore designated player Caden Sorrell and catcher Bear Harrison managed to reach base, but the Aggies failed to drive home a run.
The Volunteers continued their onslaught with a home run from sophomore third baseman Dean Curley, bringing the score to 5-0. They then erupted for five additional runs in the sixth inning, all with two outs, highlighted by a three-run run from redshirt senior center fielder Hunter Ensley, leading to the 10-0 final.
The Aggies were on the receiving end of the SEC’s first no-hitter since 2021, an especially tough outcome considering their aspirations this season. A&M coach Michael Earley remarked on the team’s challenges and indicated that changes would be necessary moving forward.
The Aggies will look to rebound quickly, returning to Knoxville for a doubleheader against the Volunteers on Saturday, April 5, at 2:00 p.m.
