Texas A&M’s Micah Hudson Steps Away from Football Activities
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M’s highly touted wide receiver transfer Micah Hudson, a former Texas Tech standout, has temporarily stepped away from the Aggies‘ day-to-day football activities, according to reports. The decision comes just over a month after Hudson committed to the program, leaving his future with the team uncertain.
Hudson, a five-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2024 class, was expected to bolster Texas A&M’s receiving corps after transferring from Texas Tech. However, his departure from team activities has raised questions about his immediate role with the Aggies. On3‘s Pete Nakos first reported the news, though no timeline has been provided for Hudson’s potential return.
Ranked as the No. 4 wide receiver and No. 12 overall player in the nation by the On3 Industry Ranking, Hudson was a prized addition for Texas A&M. The Temple, Texas, native chose the Aggies over other top programs, including Texas and Oklahoma, following a standout high school career. Despite his potential, Hudson’s freshman season at Texas Tech was limited by injuries, resulting in just eight receptions for 123 yards in five games.
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has emphasized the importance of adding talent through the transfer portal, particularly at wide receiver. Hudson’s arrival was seen as a key move to address the departure of the team’s top five receivers from last season. However, his current absence could force the Aggies to reassess their plans for the upcoming season.
Hudson’s skill set has drawn comparisons to NFL star Garrett Wilson, a former Ohio State standout now with the New York Jets. His ability to make dynamic plays and secure contested catches made him a valuable asset for Texas A&M’s offense. The Aggies also added other transfer receivers, including Kevin Concepcion and Mario Craver, to strengthen their depth chart.
Texas A&M officials have not commented on the specifics of Hudson’s situation, but sources indicate he remains part of the program and could return to the team in the future. For now, the Aggies will continue preparations for the fall season without one of their most anticipated newcomers.
