Texas A&M Softball Claims Series Win Over Tennessee Amid Rain Delays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Texas A&M secured a crucial series win over Tennessee with a doubleheader victory last weekend, solidifying their No. 2 seed for the upcoming SEC tournament.
The first game of the doubleheader was postponed due to heavy rain while A&M led 5-0 in the second inning. The Aggies resumed play on Saturday, where Emiley Kennedy took the mound again after a strong performance in the previous match.
In the second game, Kennedy faced off against Tennessee’s Sophia Nugent, who hit a home run, reducing the Aggies’ lead to 5-1. Despite the momentum shift, Texas A&M scored additional runs, including a two-run home run by freshman KK Dement, ending the game with a decisive 11-2 victory, thanks to a run-rule.
The first game of the doubleheader saw Kentucky’s pitching challenge A&M. Kennedy was replaced after two innings, but her earlier 1-0 shutout showcased her dominance throughout the series. The only run of that match was due to a timely RBI double from shortstop Koko Wooley.
“This series win is huge for us heading into the SEC tournament,” said Wooley. “We played hard and showed our resilience, especially in the rain.”
Texas A&M heads to the SEC tournament with a strong performance record, earning a double-bye as part of their success in the regular season.
