Texas A&M Split Doubleheader with LSU, Seeks Series Win

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M baseball faced LSU in a challenging doubleheader on Saturday, May 3, and managed to split the games, keeping their hopes alive for a series victory.
In the first game, Texas A&M secured a 3-1 win, thanks in large part to designated hitter Hayden Schott, who has adapted his role this season due to a meniscus tear. Schott delivered a clutch pinch hit in the seventh inning, scoring the game-winning run after fighting back from an 0-2 count. “Every time Schott gets a pinch hit, or he’s starting, the place goes crazy,” said Aggie second baseman Ben Royo.
With the game tied at one, Royo reached base on a triple, setting up Schott’s RBI single, marking his 34th of the season. “He’s truly an elite teammate,” said pitcher Ryan Prager, who pitched exceptionally well to earn his first SEC win of the season.
However, the Aggies (26-20, 9-14) faced a stronger challenge in the second game, falling 2-1 against LSU (38-10, 15-8). LSU pitcher Anthony Eyanson threw a complete game, striking out 14 and limiting the Aggies to just three hits.
“Their starter right there, that was some of the best stuff — that was a heck of a performance,” said Texas A&M coach Jim Schlossnagle regarding Eyanson’s efforts.
Although the Aggies struggled offensively in Game 2, Royo still managed to hit his ninth home run of the season, while A&M’s Justin Lamkin had a solid outing, lasting 5 1/3 innings and allowing only two runs.
With the split, the Aggies now look forward to the rubber match scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4. They will send left-hander Myles Patton (3-3, 4.84 ERA) to the mound, while LSU has not yet announced its starting pitcher.
As they brace for the final game of the series, the Aggies hope to secure a series victory that could bolster their chances for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
