HOOVER, Alabama – Texas A&M’s baseball team faces a major setback as star outfielder Jace LaViolette exited the game against No. 10 Auburn due to a hand injury on Thursday. The injury occurred in the top of the fifth inning when LaViolette was hit by a pitch thrown by Auburn pitcher Carson Myers.

Before leaving the game, LaViolette had a batting average of .259 and 18 home runs this season. His performance has been crucial for Texas A&M as they strive to secure their spot in the NCAA Tournament.

During the game, Laviolette was seen attempting to swing when the pitch hit him on his hand and the bat’s knob. Despite initially walking to first base, he showed signs of pain and signaled to the dugout that he could not continue. He was replaced by Jamal George, who took his place in the lineup.

After a lengthy absence for X-rays, LaViolette returned to the dugout in the seventh inning with his left hand wrapped in a splint. ESPN‘s Kris Budden reported that there was an X-ray machine on site, eliminating the need for him to go to a hospital. He did not return to the bench after initially leaving the field.

Commentators noted the intensity of the situation when Jace, perceived to be in great pain, let out a scream audible across the field. This injury adds to the troubling season for the Aggies, who have already lost key players, including Grahovac and Sorrell to injuries.

LaViolette, ranked as the top college prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft, had an impressive sophomore season in 2024, where he recorded a .305 batting average with 29 home runs and 78 RBIs. He remains an essential player in the team’s efforts as Texas A&M attempts a deep run in the SEC Tournament following an underwhelming 11-19 conference record.
