Texas State Bobcats Seek Redemption Against Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in Sun Belt Showdown
LAFAYETTE, La. — The Texas State Bobcats and Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns will clash in a highly anticipated Sun Belt Conference basketball game on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. ET at the Cajundome. Texas State, holding an 11-8 record, aims to narrow its 2-8 deficit against Louisiana since January 2021, while the Ragin’ Cajuns, at 6-13, look to extend their recent dominance in the rivalry.
Texas State enters the game on a strong note, having won three of their last four matches. Their most recent victory came in a thrilling 85-82 overtime win against Southern Miss on Saturday. “It was a hard-fought game, and we showed resilience,” said Texas State head coach Terrence Johnson. “We need to carry that momentum into Thursday.”
Louisiana, meanwhile, snapped a three-game losing streak with a 65-60 win over UL Monroe on Saturday. Despite their struggles this season, the Ragin’ Cajuns have historically had the upper hand against Texas State, winning eight of their last 10 matchups. “We know what’s at stake,” said Louisiana forward Jordan Brown. “We’re focused on defending our home court.”
One key factor in Thursday’s game will be three-point shooting. Texas State has been exceptional from beyond the arc this season, making 38.1% of their attempts, while Louisiana has struggled, shooting just 30.7%. “Their three-point shooting is a concern,” admitted Louisiana head coach Bob Marlin. “We’ll need to tighten up our perimeter defense.”
Texas State is favored by 5.5 points, with the over/under set at 144.5 points. The Bobcats are eager to avenge their 66-46 loss to Louisiana in January 2024. “We remember that game,” said Texas State guard Mason Harrell. “This is our chance to make it right.”
