Texas State Defeats James Madison in Thrilling Volleyball Match

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Texas State rallied from two sets down to defeat James Madison 3-2 on Thursday night, snapping the Dukes’ 13-match winning streak.

Texas State (15-11, 10-5 Sun Belt) trailed 7-1 in the deciding set before charging back for a 15-12, 25-21, 25-19, 25-21, 15-12 victory. The win was their seventh straight and their fourth in a row against JMU.

Samantha Wunsch led Texas State with 21 kills and nine digs, while Maggie Walsh and Brooke Bentke added 10 kills each, with Walsh recording a double-double. JMU’s Kennedy Louisell had 18 kills, with Ayen Nhial contributing seven blocks and seven kills.

James Madison (20-7, 13-2 Sun Belt), who had already clinched the Sun Belt Conference regular-season title, was looking to conclude their season on a high note against Texas State again on Friday.

Texas State’s comeback in the fifth set included a late surge that ultimately secured the match. The Bobcats’ victory halted JMU’s strong momentum, showcasing the team’s resilience and skill.
